i am not where i am supposed to be
i am supposed to be bringing
a smile to your face
i am supposed to remind you
of the days we used to laugh

instead i am far away
under a cloudy sky
i am not where i am supposed to be

i am not where i am supposed to be
i am supposed to take you out dancing
in the rain
i am not where i am supposed to be
i am supposed to spin the cold and shivers
splattering off your dress

instead i am writing on a strip of paper
under incandescent lights
i am not where i am supposed to be
i am supposed to back you against the wall
and make you kiss me until my heart is ripped in two

instead i am inhaling the graphite dust
of a no. 2 pencil
i am not where i am supposed to be
at the wrong place
at the wrong time
or was it me

Well executed, the strong feeling is expressed with precision and it's loud...
I really feel these words, and to be honest, lately I've been feeling like I'm in the wrong place. So, in a sense, you named the feelings that I refuse to confront.
Thank you for this piece. :)
